Alwyn Laubscher

    Career History:
    Alwyn Laubscher, a professionally registered engineer, started his career as a civil engineer at the South African Transport Services in 1975. He gained valuable experience in construction and then later in management, while working as District Engineer in charge of the rail network and stations in the Western Cape.

    He joined the municipal environment in 1990 as Director: Civil Engineering Services at the City of Bellville where he competently managed the Technical Team of the municipality for 6 years. When the City of Tygerberg was established, he was appointed Director: Civil Engineering Services. He was recognised for the excellent work he did to plan and to establish the new Engineering Department for the City. In 2001 Alwyn was appointed Executive Director: Development & Infrastructure for the City of Cape Town. As such, he was part of the corporate strategic team of the Unicity and was responsible for the combined directorates of Economic Development & Tourism, Planning & Environment, Transport, Roads & Stormwater, Housing and Property Management. During this period he acquired a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the workings of the City.

    On 1 August 2005 Alwyn left the services of the City under a voluntary separation agreement and established Alwyn Laubscher & Associates (Pty) Ltd, specialising in development facilitation and project management. He is a registered Professional Construction Project Manager.

    Under his leadership AL&A was involved with several major developments such as Burgundy, Buhrein, Belladonna, Watergate, Sitari, Bella Riva and Clara Anna Fontein. He currently serves as an executive director of Durbanville Inner Valley (Pty) Ltd.
    Alwyn is a founder member of Western Cape Property Development Forum and currently serves as the Secretary. He is also chairman of the Provincial Planning and Development Forum, an advisory body to the Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning.  Alwyn is a Fellow of the South African Institute of Civil Engineers and an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Municipal Engineers of Southern Africa. He is also a Past President of IMESA and a Past President of the International Federation of Municipal Engineers.
